No Longer Nocturnal

Greetings friends surfers and the like,

This announcement may come as a shock to many of you, but I am leaving the Night Watch. Not IHOP mind you, just changing the time of day I serve and pray at IHOP. After much consideration and deliberation, while talking it through with those I love, I decided to make it official.

What does this mean? Well for starters it wont be for another week or so. I going to transition smoothly from Night to Day making sure I can help train people to fill the various leadership roles I currently hold. I wont be able to train leaders to do things how I do them, but I want to make it as fluid as possible.

Other details will follow. Just thought I’d break the week long silence and fill you in on the big news. I am looking forward to being able to see Carrie more, and hang out with the likes of Sliker, Bohlender, Blanc and Steeno.

I did the Nightwatch (midnight to 6am) at IHOP for 6 years! I’ve loved all those I’ve served with, and the thousands of interns I’ve had the privilege of serving in helping them understand the glory of their salvation in Christ.

There is a bright sun out there… can’t wait to finally see it again!

Me back when I started on the Night Watch 6 years ago as a 20 year old pup:

wow. i am a little shocked… ‘good’ shocked though :)

… will the title of your blog be changing??

hmmmm…well I think so but not sure yet. I was thinking to change to the title of this post… “No Longer Nocturnal” mostly because though it means what it does in reality, some will probably think I’m talking about getting saved.

In fact I love how people misconstrued “seeing the world through artificial light” as having some deep meaning. When it just meant I’m up at night I see the world through the light light bulbs give off.

plus come to think of it I like No Longer Nocturnal for the double meaning or insinuation. I think I’ll go with it!

I miss you Helen! You have the cutest smile I’ve ever seen hope you visit sometime soon! Man Australia is so far away!

It’s the end of an era. You were on the Night Watch the day I arrived five years ago. I remember - I was afraid of you simply because you were huge. :-)

Congratulations on the switch. Despite the rumors that float around the Night Watch, days aren’t all bad…

Zach, will be praying that your transition to days goes smoothly. Will also be praying for your compadres on the Night Watch. I’m sure they will miss your presence and your leadership. God Bless!

Weird. I also recently transitioned to a diurnal schedule. Sleeping at night is good. (Especially when you’re married!)

Sounds like a good transition for you. No more Random rantings Friday on Saturday… just when I was getting used the the whole thing.

Totally of subject, but i have to tell you this. I just saw an ad on TV that was advertizing Horton hears a who, and saying if you bring your ticket into IHOP (the pancake place) you can get free food! You have to love the way God does stuff! I don’t remember, someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t ever remember IHOP ever doing a national movie campaign promo. To think that they would link up with the Horton movie is just too unbelieveable to me.

“Horton Hears a Who comes to IHOP” the commercial says. God is too amazing, and Lou Engle will have another incredible thing to add to his story. No doubt we’ll hear it many wonderful times.

Wow, Zack. The night watch will certainly feel different without you. It looks like you are coming into a very different season in your life.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see you come back some day (like Stuart, Leah, Sada, and others), but I won’t hold my breath.

We bless you in your departure. We’ll try to remember that this doesn’t mean you are falling off the face of the planet. And we’ll always be glad to welcome you back (if you ever should decide to return to that nocturnal life).

    Haybark & Scott,

Care to elaborate on the IHOP/Horton link? I am thoroughly confused.

Sorry Zack to be off topic. Quickly I say, Jim Follow this link and read the article from Bound 4 Life’s websight. http://bound4life.com/blog/2008/03/14/all-whos-who-have-blood-that-is-red/

This ministry was launched by Lou Engle four years ago, Lou is long time friend of Mike Bickle and is now based in KC with IHOP. Once you read the article you will see that it is all too weird to be coincidence.

Though I love getting to see you and get your one of a kind hugs again, I’ll admit I was SO SAD to hear about the switch!!! Going back on the night watch will have a sad tone to it knowing that Zach Hensley wont be there to welcome me with open arms and a palm to my face. :/ I’ll miss you Z, but I’ll admit I agree with you on the mornings :) There’s something about reading your bible over a cup of coffee…..and having it not be 3pm….that is simply wonderful!

  17. 17 zackhensley Jpm3upmSat, 22 Mar 2008 14:37:31 +000008 5, 2007 at Saturday, March 22, 2008

Don’t worry Chris I’ll be more than happy to hug you and wipe my greasy hand on your face any day! Ha! Mornings are indeed great… by the way i saw you yesterday and your hair is getting so long! You look so cute… Are you trying to get a man? ;) jk

    love you chris!
