It has been the process of interpreting Jefferson's "inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and Happines" that has deemed unwanted pregnancy as an infringement upon the "rights" of a woman. This new precedent was set with the powerful tidal force of almost 200 years of shifting civil "liberties." So in a twisted irony, the same force that dreamed of freedom for Black American slaves then spiraled into the regression of legal abortion, all the while imagining that it was continuing the process of freedom. All that to say, I wonder if an appeal to America's Civil Conscience is the strongest appeal. Rather than laud the preamble to the Constitution, you might be better off pointing out how dark things have actually gotten since America has trusted herself to be the guardian of human rights. This massive blind-spot (legal abortion) surely means that we need heaven's input; we need to rethink, not just return to, our very foundational elements.
