I pray for President Obama every day, and if I ever had a chance to talk with him, this is probably along the lines of what I would say. John says it with the wisdom, tenderness, and abundant joy needed in a discussion of this nature.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again- I love John Piper! Watch this, spread it around it’s astounding.

I wanted to let you know tath I will be off line for the month of February. My pastor called a fast and part of it is to turn off the tv (which is not a hard one for me, never watch it) and to shut off the internet, and all media & books except email communications for ministry family etc. This is going to be a challenge, but I am excited to be able to take the time and shut out all other influence but the Lord and His word.
I will emerge again in March. Have a great time in AZ, hope your boys pull it off! I always love the underdogs!!
I struggled long and hard with this issue before I voted. Piper does handle it well, if a little forcefully. The one thing I lament is that as a Christian I hadn’t, until this election season, sought to understand people on the other side of this issue. In our fervency over this subject we often send the message that anyone who would disagree with us must be stupid. As one of the comedians put it on the Daly Show “you got it, John (McCain), all of us women are just dying to get an abortion. It’s our number one goal in life.” (paraphrase) The truth is they are smart people with real concerns, and we would be well served to seek, in love, to understand them. We don’t need to compromise our principles, but I do think we could collectively act a lot more Christ-like.
